Arisaig Eco Projects
2022
We’re excited to have received National Lottery funding of £9,997 for our community climate action project with the Together for Our Planet programme. Funding has allowed us to build on the work of the Arisaig Eco Project in our coastal community – inspiring, encouraging and supporting everyone to recognise the everyday changes we can all make to live more sustainably and keep our planet healthy. There will be a focus on our own well-being too – with workshops learning more about using local plants for health purposes and cooking with foraged foods as well as a range of up-cycling and art workshops.
(2020 – 2022)
Arisaig Community Trust have secured a share of funding made available through the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) and has been awarded a CCF grant totalling £69,000 for a new Eco Project that will run until March 2022.
The main themes of the project are Waste (reducing consumption, re-using, repairing & upcycling), Travel (encouraging active travel, reducing car journeys as well as exploring the range of electric vehicles and e-bikes on offer) and increasing the understanding and awareness of Climate Change locally. There will continue to be lots of interesting initiatives, training events and workshops being organised all year round with a focus of reducing carbon emissions at a local level.

(2018 – 2020)
Arisaig Community Trust received funding of £58,556 from the Climate Challenge Fund for the Arisaig Eco Project. The main themes of the project were to encourage local food production and consumption, reduce waste and create awareness of active travel and greener transport.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle focused on cutting down on the things we use, finding new uses for items rather than throwing them out and recycling items. Eat Local and Seasonal looked at growing more food at home & in community spaces. Composting at home was encouraged to reduce the amount of food waste being sent to landfill. Greener Travel encouraged the use of public transport, car sharing and active travel and introduced lots of activities and events based around the new Electric Vehicle charge points at the Land, Sea and Islands Centre.
2014 – 2016
Arisaig Community Trust received £162,000 from the Climate Challenge Fund towards the eco-refurbishment of the Land, Sea and Islands Centre and a range of initiatives linked with food growing, food waste, energy efficiency and greener transport. This project was multi-layered, involving education, practical workshops, building projects and technological innovation.
We employed two project development managers to promote energy awareness in the village, create warmer homes and reduce fuel poverty. The refurbishment of the LSIC was key to the project as it enabled us to demonstrate to homeowners how energy-saving measures can really work.
Energy Action Scotland (2015 -16)
Our project managers worked with Energy Action Scotland and the Warmer Homes Fund to provide cavity wall insulation for households, as well as new windows, boilers, heaters, draught-proofing and other forms of insulation. A total of £90,000 was awarded for energy improvements in the community.
